When dreaming you enter a mysterious and fascinating world, where the rules of reality do not apply.  Dreams are one of life's most fascinating and intriguing mysteries. I have been recording my dreams each morning by writing them down, or trying to draw a quick sketch. This series is a complete experiment with the use of overlapping materials.  I have been experimenting with the application of encaustic wax, and its mark making process.  Encaustic paint is made from pure pigment and a mixture of molten beeswax and damar resin, that I heat up on a hot plate. The paint is applied hot with a variety of tools, then cools and hardens within seconds. The process is quite seductive, tactile, and sultry. Painting with hot wax results in a velvety matte finish, like the frosting on a donut! The most amazing thing about encaustic, is the endless versatility. Multiple layers of paint and clear wax creates overlapping color and amazing depth. The medium can be textured, scraped, incised, etched, combed, embossed, sculpted into three dimensional bits or smoothed to a glassy finish. The molten nature of the medium just begs to be used for collaging or embedding mixed media into the wax. Since beeswax is compatible with oil paint, oil pigment sticks can be used to glaze in rich color or to fill in incised markings. This material is very free, and unpredictable...but I love it!

A Time To Remember

These paintings are expressions of a memory....
Celebrating the life and death of a loved one, through expressive color pigments, and gestural markmaking.

Rethink

Promote a more peaceful world.
Most people are familiar with the concept of peace, as well as with the imagery and stereotypes that connect with it.  In many cases, especially in the US peace has become a marketable commodity focused on a past culture that has little to do with achieving actual solutions for our current world.  When in reality peace is a relief from war.  Peace is clean drinking water and food on the table.  Peace is being aware of government actions.  It is putting others first.  It is the support and love of a family.  Peace needs to change its meaning from a stereotype to an achievable, essential way of life.  We need to become personally involved in the issues of our time, and find our own ways to work for a peaceful future. Stand up for human dignity, everyone, everywhere.

This series of works represent many facets of peace, challenging people to rethink their own definition of the world.  What better way to bring these ideas to life but to juxtapose them against thought provoking illustration panel paintings.
