megan daniel: It is human nature to try to make sense of what we see. I use art as a way of articulating my feelings, thoughts, dreams, memories, and experiences while at the same time, disrupting the viewers’ understanding of the expected. In my work I utilize expressive qualities of color and alternative materials to draw in participants to explore with me a shared feeling or idea. The spontaneous overflow of strong feelings is expressed through my energetic and violent brush strokes, and chaotic energy that runs through organic forms that make up the physical sensations of color and life. The physicality of layering paint onto the canvas is a way I connect to the work and articulate self-expression. Color is one of two design elements that produces an unconscious response for the viewer’s brain, and research into this area influences my work. My eye is attracted to the continuous line, movement, texture, material, process, emotion, layers, variation and simplicity. My active process of art making refers to my life experiences, memories, and imagery that challenges the viewer to rethink their own definition of the world.
